Ghirardelli Had to Make Its Squares Taller to Fit the Dubai Filling

Ghirardelli looked at its own famous square and said, yeah, that is not big enough for this idea.

The new Dubai Style Chocolate Squares are out now, and the brand made them taller than the regular Squares on purpose. The extra height holds a thick layer of creamy pistachio filling and crispy kataifi, that shredded pastry that gives Dubai style chocolate its crunch, all wrapped in milk chocolate. The regular square was too short for the job, so Ghirardelli built a taller one.

You get them individually wrapped in a 4.4 ounce bag for $10.99, at big retailers around the country and on Ghirardelli.com. That price matters, because Dubai style bars have been selling for silly money since the trend blew up online. A bag of these puts the same flavors in the candy aisle without the hunt.

Bobby Oliver, the brand's head of marketing, said shoppers keep coming back for the pistachio filling and the kataifi crunch, so the company put that combo into its best known shape. Ghirardelli already did a truffle style Dubai chocolate for a holiday gift set. This one is the everyday version, the bag you grab on a normal grocery run.

Taller chocolate to hold more filling is the kind of problem solving I can get behind.
