Put a costume on today and Krispy Kreme hands you a doughnut. No purchase, no catch buried in the fine print. Show up at a participating shop in costume on Oct. 30 or 31 and you get a free Original Glazed or Classic Ring, one per guest.

The orange ones are the reason this week got weird. The All Jacked Up Dozen took the Original Glazed, dyed the dough orange, and built a whole Halloween box around it for $13 through Oct. 29. Nine of them were Jack's Original Glazed with orange icing stripes. The other three went full costume: a Mummy Jack wrapped in vanilla buttercreme, a Jack O' with a chocolate icing face, and a Monster Jack with cookie crumb hair and chocolate stitches. Every one of them got a little green iced stem on top.

If you missed the box, the weekend still has a lottery in it. Krispy Kreme is surprising 10,000 random guests today and tomorrow with a Jack's Treat Dozen Pass. The pass is good for a free dozen Original Glazed with any purchase from Nov. 1 through Nov. 14.

So the play is simple. Costume on, free doughnut in hand, and hope your shop is one of the lucky ones handing out passes.
