Taco Bell Made a Hot Sauce with Duolingo, and the Packets Teach You to Say 'Taco' in Nine Languages
Taco Bell is launching a new Duo Habanero Sauce with Duolingo for National Taco Day on October 6, and this might be the most on-brand crossover in food history. The green owl that terrorizes you about your Spanish streak is now on a hot sauce packet. It was inevitable, really.
The sauce itself is a bright, tangy habanero with a fruity heat, and it is free with any order of Doritos Locos Tacos, with extra packets at 20 cents each. But the packets are the real star: each one carries bite-sized language lessons with "taco wisdoms" in nine languages, including English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese. One packet reads "Tu veux dos tacos, mon coeur?" which translates to "Do you want two tacos, sweetheart?" That is either romantic or a pickup line with a body count of zero. Your call.
Another packet simply says "'Taco' needs no translation," which is honestly the truest sentence ever printed on food packaging. It really does not.
The Duolingo mascot Duo will also be appearing in person at a New York City Taco Bell on October 6, which is a sentence I never expected to type, but here we are. A giant green owl serving tacos. The algorithm cooked this one up itself, and it is perfect.
