China gets the weird snack drops first a lot of the time, and this one proves the point again. Chips Ahoy teamed up with Heinz for a limited edition cookie flavored like tomato sweet chili sauce, sold in China under the cookie brand's local name, Quduoduo.

Yes, you read that right. A crispy cookie built around tangy tomato and crushed red chili, sweet up front with heat right behind it. The box plays it loud too: red and orange packaging carrying both logos, tomatoes and chili peppers all over it, and a cookie mascot wearing little chili shaped horns.

Ketchup on a cookie sounds cooked until you remember tomato can go sweet and chili loves sugar.

Each box is 170 grams and holds eight individually wrapped packs. It is on sale now at select retailers in China, following a launch announcement on Weibo. There is no word on a United States release, which feels almost rude.

Savory crossover snacks have been a running experiment in that market for a while, and this fits right in. Ketchup on a cookie sounds cooked until you remember tomato can go sweet and chili loves sugar. People fight over stranger chip flavors every summer. I would try one, then probably a second one, just to confirm the first one really happened.
